Sports and remedial massage is a form of hands on therapy designed to treat pain, discomfort, tension and imbalances in the body. Sports massage is much like other types of therapeutic massage, however specific techniques are applied, not only to address the symptoms or area of pain, but to target the cause of pain. The treatment involves the manipulation of soft tissue which includes muscles, tendons, ligaments, the skin and myofascia. Myofascia is a form of connective tissue, a three dimensional network that encases, supports and protects all structures in the body. Sports massage works deeply into muscle tissue, realigning muscle fibres and rebalancing the fascial system. This assists in improving and addressing dysfunction, imbalances and discomfort in the body, that can be caused by a multitude of reasons such as repetitive and strenuous physical activity or trauma.
